topic: SHORTS

In case you haven't noticed, men's shorts are getting shorter and shorter (excuse the pun). Perhaps this is a trend the coincides with the 50's and 60's comeback, which I imagine, will be short lived. While I'm not sure how I feel about the new length, I do appreciate the new and bold patterns.

Favorite Fall Fashion Trend: Varsity Jackets

This old school style goes great with girly dresses or skinny jeans and a simple top. These four are from Forever 21, Asos, Rag & Bone, and Tommy Hilfiger. For those of you applying to college, you can find one at most campus bookstores.

Who: Liv Tyler

What: Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2011 Dress
Where: World premiere of "Ocean's Kingdom" during the New York City Ballet's 2011 Fall Gala in New York September 22, 2011

I love Liv's dress choice here. Personally, I find lace irresistable so I'm automatically drawn to it. The colors match her hair and compliment her skin so perfectly. It's flattering, sexy, elegant and has a dark layer of mystery to it. It reminds me a bit of medieval fashion.

Outfits from New York

These are some outfits and new things that I’ve put together/bought while in New York City:

This is a black and white patterned dress from Urban Outfitters. It’s a part of the fall collection and it is not only very comfortable, but it has a nice cut out in the back. It works well with a scarf, belt, or cardigan.

These are the last two scarves I bought. I have a large collection of scarves but I really like these ones. The one on the left is black and white scarf with a skull and crown pattern. I also bought this at the LF sale for $14. The scarf on the right is a cheetah print scarf, which is a fun pattern when paired with a sweater or jacket for the fall. It is from H&M and was only $6!

This is a skirt from Brandy Melville. It is made out of the most comfortable and stretchy cotton. It is short in the front and it then tapers out to a full-length skirt in the back. Not only is it so comfy but it also comes in several different colors/patterns.

The skirt can also be brought up to the chest and worn over a white tank top and pencil skirt. It then functions as a shirt/dress. Its pretty crazy but it’s a nice variation on the outfit and it is a real eye catcher.

This is a white blouse from LF. I bought it during the only sale of the season and it was 60% off. It is so comfortable and light plus I like the lace design on the edges.

This is a lace dress from the LF sale as well. It has a lace top and chiffon bottom. It is rather see through so I like to layer it with a nude colored slip, or a black one as shown here.

This is a green sweater make out of a stretchy cotton material. It can be worn with a tank top or just a bandeau. Both the sweater and bandeau are from Brandy Melville, which is a really nice store in SoHo New York. Their online shopping has a smaller selection and is more expensive so I recommend going to the store to see their clothes. All of the clothes are made in Italy and are of really nice quality for a very reasonable price ($6-55).

This is a blazer from Urban Outfitters and a pair of vintage Levi jean cut-offs. Both are really comfortable and the blazer helps dress the shorts up.

These are the two bags I have been using most this fall. The one on the left is a nice quilted bag with a leather and chain strap. It is the perfect size for your phone, wallet, and a snack. Its light, easy to carry, and it goes with most outfits. It is from Forever21 and it was only $20. The bag on the right is from LF and it is a brown leather purse. It was about $35 with the 60% off sale. It is really deep and holds almost anything you need to carry. From notebooks to an extra cardigan this bag will always have what you need when you’re out.

[Lindsay's] Pick

My favorite of these three is Natalie Portman's outfit. The absence of any jewelry really allows us to appreciate the dress. Also, the black shoes really stand out. Portman does a good job of making a crazy dress wearable and artistic.

The ladies at this year's Emmy Awards were red hot!

Here's Adrianne Palicki, Angela Kinsey, Kate Winslet, Kathy Griffin, Kerry Washington, Leah Michelle, and Nina Dobrev wearing the most popular color at the event. My personal favorite is Nina Dobrev's gown from the Donna Karen Resort 2012 collection.

New fashionista on the block

Elle in Super 8

Dakota and Elle

Elle's Marc Jacobs campaign

Elle Fanning is definitely a new fashionista to look out for. She was great in Super 8, her big movie debut, so if you haven't seen it yet, go do it! But I've also started to notice her wearing some big fashion names: doing an advertisement for Marc Jacobs, front row with her sister, Dakota, at the Rodarte show, and just doing some all around beautiful modeling.
